The History of Heart the Arts
As we are all very aware, COVID-19 was especially hard for the Arts Community, forcing theatres to go dark or run at 50% capacity, dance studios to change all aspects of teaching and performing, instructors of all disciplines forced to learn how to teach virtually, and arts studios forced to close their doors and sell online. And for those who love to perform, or audiences searching for live performance … the outlets were been few and far between. Thankfully, theatres are open again, dance studios are in full swing and teaching and coaching is for the most part back to in-person.
Heart the Arts was borne out of want to keep the arts in the conversation when everything was so glum, and we wanted to spotlight some arts organizations who were thriving and inventive during the pandemic.
Celebrating the Arts post-pandemic
We continued with the program in 2022, spotlighting arts organizations, companies and individual artists who are making their mark and contributing to the vibrant arts community in Waterloo Region.
