Directed by David Atkins, Music Direction by Michael Brown
CALL for AUDITIONS
Shrek the Musical
“Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek…” And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand…and his name is Shrek. Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek the Musical is the Tony Award®-winner which brings all the beloved characters you know to life on stage and shows there’s more to the story than meets the ears. Featuring instant classics: “Big, Bright, Beautiful World,” “I’m a Believer” and more, it’s sure to delight audiences of all ages!
New this year: video auditions!
We want you to show us the best you can do, so send us one or two links to videos posted online that highlight your vocal talents. You may film and upload a new video for the audition, or you may use an existing video, if you prefer. Choose something you are proud of!
The best option is to upload a video to YouTube:
- If you don’t already have a YouTube account, you can create one for free
- Then, record a video using your smart phone or video camera
- Upload your video to YouTube
- Set your video to either “unlisted” or public. Unlisted will mean that only people with the link will be able to view it
Another option is to upload a video to a file sharing service like Dropbox or Google Drive, and then share the link with us. Please make sure the permissions are set properly on the video so that we can view it.
We are looking for approximately 90 seconds of video in total. If your video is posted on YouTube, you can copy a link to a particular section of the video by right-clicking the time bar below the video and selecting “Copy video URL at current time”.
We will not share the link to your audition video publicly, or with anyone outside of the KWMP creative team.
If you have technical difficulty uploading a video, or if you have other concerns, please contact us. We will do our best to help or to make alternate arrangements.
Do not send us your video via email — please provide only a LINK to the video.
Dance Auditions
We will be holding dance auditions open to those 14+ on June 25th from 6-8pm at the KWMP Hall. Please arrive at the hall ready to dance for 6pm.
Dancers should still fill out an audition form below, but do not need to submit a video unless they would like to be considered for a character.
Callbacks
Callbacks will occur during the first two weeks of July. If we wish to see you at the callbacks, we will be in touch about dates and times, and we will provide you with material that we would like you to learn for your callback.

We will top the evening off with some fun Karaoke entertainment!
Meat and veggie burgers are supplied, but please feel free to bring your favourite side dish or appetizer. At the meeting members will hear the report and statements required by the Corporations Act, to be read and laid before the Members of the Corporation; elect Directors to our Board; and appoint the auditors and fix, or authorize the Board to fix, their remuneration.
Want to join the Board of Directors? We are always looking for new people to help govern this longstanding organization. By-Laws state that anyone wishing to seek election or re-election as a Director must file their intentions in writing with the Secretary of the Corporation, at least 72 hours in advance of the Annual General Meeting. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 9, 2017 – KW Musical Productions is bringing the witty, wild and whimsical world of Dr. Seuss to life with Seussical the Musical, February 2–11th at the St Jacobs Country Playhouse. Seussical transports you back to your childhood with the Cat in the Hat, the land of the Whos and the Jungle of Nool. This story will help people big and small to rediscover the delightfully zany characters imagined by one of the most beloved storytellers of all time. Tickets are just $35+HST for adults and $29+HST for children(15 and under) by calling the Box Office at 519-747-7788 or visiting KWMP.ca
The Cat in the Hat (Rob Bridel) tells the story of Horton (Max DeNardis), an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo (Logan Brideau), a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge – not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers led by the Sour Kangaroo (Sarah Nairne), but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird (Sarah Willett). Although Horton faces many trials and dangers, his faithful friend, Gertrude McFuzz (Joanna Guistini-Wilkinson), never gives up on him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
“I used to read all of these stories to my daughters as children,” says Rob Bridel (Cat in the Hat). “To play this iconic character is an absolute thrill, especially when my daughter AJ is assisting in direction. It has come full circle.” One of the youngest cast members, Logan Brideau loves playing JoJo the Who. “I love JoJo because he is a big thinker and has a great imagination, like me!” He continues, “He thinks he’s a nobody but then he is the one who saves the Whos. It shows that anything is possible.”
Seussical is led by David Atkins (Director), Michael Brown (Music Director) and Sarrah Scott (Choreographer). Seussical was created by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Once On This Island). Seussical is present through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.
K-W Musical Productions has been bringing top calibre musical theatre to the Region of Waterloo and surrounding area since 1948.
